There are some community natural resources that get damaged by commercial activities. An example of this would be river systems. BXI are investigating if they should be seen as a community resource because any changes to them will affect the entire community. Over the last few decades, the co-operative movement has made significant steps towards community ownership and in the UK there is a new charitable entity called ‘Community Benefit Society’ (CBS). BXI is investigating whether community natural resources, like individual rivers, could be owned by CBS giving them the ability to be managed for the community not merely commercial interests.
